Re: Pond Life
Well spotted TC, it's only for sale to contribute to a new long arm for one of the Hitachi's. They're a bit more user friendly with radio, air con, etc

Re: Pond Life
more fantastic photos and story to go with them Have really enjoyed this thread since the start a couple of questions if I may
what the long reach yellow machine its not a excavator or a drag line ????
In previous posts you have had boats and barges dunno if thats the right name for that stuff could they not be used on this job maybe not enough water depth I guess
I find this stuff all very interesting and educational well done and keep the photos coming really enjoy them

Re: Pond Life
Hi Paul, thanks for the interest. The ponds are silted right up so there's no draft for a boat, it's a digger and dumper job!
The unusual long reach is a Priestman VC15 (variable counterweight) long reach. It is a hybrid between rope and hydraulic. The winch that draws in the dipper is hydraulic, the dipper goes out by a ram that pushes a counterweight back down the boom which pulls on ropes that pull the top off the dipper making it go out. The big advantage is it is really stable at full reach with a bucketful.

Re: Pond Life
Thanks for that Clive Im gunna do some googling now and see if I can find one working in a video
If the pond was big enough I guess once you get enough silt out you would need the boats once you run out of reach
keep it all coming loving it all

Re: Pond Life
Hi Liam and Graham,
Yep, who wants to be on a building site with a plonker who's never done the job telling you how to do it! All good but haven't used the ZX110 much at all. Still not done 5000 hrs and ten years old Its sitting on a stockpile most of the time.
Thanks Graham for putting the video link up
