Does anyone have any pictures and information on the original Wolvey based Galliford business, including the roadstone operation, that now trades as Galliford Try?
There doesn't seem to be anything obvious on the forum already and nothing to be found on the net.
I am sure they will have had a sizable fleet in the old days.
Any information will get an appreciative audience of at least one person!

Galliford Roadstone was sold to a management buyout in 1997 and in its current form is known as GRS (Roadstone) Ltd providing aggregate merchanting, recycling, muckaway and transport services. A sister orgnisation GRS (Bagging) Ltd, in which Lafarge have a stake, provides bagged aggregates to commerical customers with bagging plants are several Lafarge quarries.
Associated company GRS (South Witham) Ltd, operaters of a limestone quarry in South Witham, Lincolnshire was bought by Ennstone in 2004 and is now part of Breedon Aggregtes England, producing agricultural lime and crushed rock aggregates.

Re: Galliford Construction
Galliford did a fair bit of work in my area during the 80's. They were main contractor for the A45 upgrade from Wellingborough to Rushden circa 1982, although most of the earthworks were subbed to Wyatt. Galliford did however have a couple of Hymac 580C's digging French drains at the side of the carriageway, although the rather large lumps of ironstone found caused a few issues and had to be resolved by Wyatt's Cat 235!
I'd think around 86(ish) Galliford 'Mains Renovation' division were working for Anglian Water, scraping and relining some of the older cast water mains. They had several 'Jewellair' Tractaires, Wickham 3" pumps and a fair bit of specialist kit for the job. One machine was used for driving/rotating steel rods down the pipes to remove detritus from the inside, built by Tate Pipe Lining of Manchester, a Putzmeister screed pump but lot of the other stuff may have been built for Galliford to carry out the operation of scraping/lining water mains.

Re: Galliford Construction
I used to be a site manager for Galliford Construction. As for plant when I was with them we had a few 3CXs based at Warrington and that was about it apart from small plant. In those days, mid 90s, everything was hired in through the plant department. That man seemed to have a great job! Lots of holidays etc etc!
