Queghan Construction (Oldham)

Post #1 by Nick Drew » Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:32 pm

Hi Guys,

I am looking for any info and or photographs on Queghan Construction who were based in Oldham.

Are they still in business ?

I spent a fair bit of time with some of the lads who were all travelling men when they were working in Southampton. And was lucky enough toget some stick time on their Priestman Mustang 220 and Cat 955L ....just wish I still had the photos !

Any info/ feedback would be great !

Nick

It's been a few years since I saw anything with the Queghan logo on. Used to be everywhere around Oldham. The site is now home to "Q plant hire", I assume a related company, don't know if it's the same owner. I remember going past the yard regularly and seeing some large plant particularly the booms of large crawler cranes. Seems Q plant still specialise in these machines.

Thanks for the info Norman, if memory serves me right the firm used to be owned by two Irishmen, Quinn and Heneghan, I recall one of them used to visit the job in Southampton from time to time and I once had to leap out of the 220 cab one day when he was walking down the job !! Good old times tho !

Well Mr William Quinn is still about in Oldham. He now has a majority share holding in Oldham Roughyeads rugby league club. I think he's been involved for many years back to the days when they still had their old Watersheddings ground not far from Queghans yard.
