Blackwells

Post #1 by nick lamb » Sat Oct 25, 2008 4:25 pm

I here Blackwells have 90 bits of kit standing.I hope they get through the tough times ok.They have allways survived in the past.I worked for them a couple of times and they were good to work for.You shift alot of muck in day working for Blackwells!.
I also heard CHC (Cheetam Hill Construction) are standing idle.I worked on a tip cell for them in Manchester years ago.I wasn't too keen working for them.Their site agent wasn't really clued up.He had 2 of their D6H lgp's on clean up duties around the 2xCat 245D's whilst i was strugling with D.Wardle Plants D53P manual gearbox tractor dozing boulder clay up batters because their rubbish Cat D400 drivers would only tip at the bottom :x This blagarding went on for a week and a half before I managed to get a hire for one of my own D8's.(not with CHM!).
WRG waste have a D6R LGP on selfdrive hire from a local rate cutting joker at £450 per week!!!!.Well they did have untill WRG's driver fried it!.It was at the Gowy landfill site near Chester. It's now in bits.
Some of our local outfits won't see Christmas.Only the tough will survive.
Anyone else got any cut throat rate stories?

Not seen any low rates stuff as of yet, but have seen lets call it "fine Tuning" this is sacking on a trumped up charge to get the other drivers to get their act together, and keep them on their toes, 1 driver was sacked for leaving his lights on draining the power so it failed to start the D/truck after lunch, the Forman said "I think it's time for you to set off home"

I think that Blackwells should be well placed to pick up some opencast work at some point. They have the kit allready in place and there is going to be alot of work in the coal sector.I think that if the coal sector does get going that there may be shortages of equipment to strip these new sites, not to mention reinstating them.

Talking to Andrew Foster the MD at Scottish Coal, he was saying the company have planning agreed for the extraction of 28million tonnes of coal already, without putting forward any more planning applications! :o
