Hi all,
I've just joined the forum and I was wondering whether any of you have any recollections of Sydney Greens.
I understand that they were the main contractor for the upgrade to dual carriageway,of the Gt North Rd (A1), between Sandy and Buckden in Cambridgeshire around 1962. (My local area)
Presumably they were quite a large firm but what happened to them from there on, cant seem to find any info about them?
Does anyone have any memories of working on that job or better still any photos?
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark, welcome to the Forum,
Sydney Greens i belive sold to ECC Quarries Ltd in about 1967,they bought the company mainly for the aggregate quarries, the biggest one being Paxton pits.
ECC Quarries demerged from the parent company of English China Clays Limited and was renamed CAMAS Aggregates Ltd., part of CAMAS plc. It then merged with Bardon Aggregates in 1997, the quarrying division becoming Bardon Aggregates, under the parent company Aggregate Industries.
I am sure others from the forum could help further in your enquires...

Thanks Martyn,
Paxton pit is still in operation, as you rightly say under the Bardon banner.
