Perkins heater pipe spigot thread

Post #1 by adg » Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:11 am

I would like to attach a heater feed from a Perkins 4.108 cylinder head.

There are two square headed blanking plugs at each end of the head and one temperature sender, these I'm told these are used for heater pipes when required.

Does anyone know what the thread pitch is for these plugs and where I might get some pipe spigots from?

Cheers

Al

Hi,
I'm pretty certain the heater pipe tappings in the Perkins 108 head will be BSP, (British Standard Pipe). You will get a BSP fitting at any pipework supplier, hydraulic hose supplier or even a plumbers merchant. If you cant get exactly what you need get a fitting and get a tail welded or brazed onto it.

Thats what I ended up doing, some are BSP but some have a very fine thread as on my Perkins 108 engined Hydrovane. My local supplier could not help with fittings for oil pressure gauges.Managed to get some connections off Ebay

Thanks for the info gents.

It appears that the temperature sensor and the two blanking plugs are 1/2" BSPT. I'll know for certain after the weekend. As Martyn says, there are many fine threads all over this engine.

The engine in question is a 4.108 Perkins from a hydrovane. I'm using it to get a Kubota KH66 going, the previous owner only use the machine on rare occasions and when he did he used copious amounts of easy start :dizzy: . This looks to have promptly destroy all pistons/rings (Kubota parts don't come cheap) and is not an economic rebuild.

The drive coupling is centred and mounted on the flywheel and a bellhousing plate machined to fit and ready for the pump to be remounted.

I've made engine mountings and other bracketry. If I get a little time over the weekend, everything will be bolted and plumbed in ready for a trial. Once I know everything is working, I'll tidy the fabrications, spray the engine and put it back together...
