Basingstoke Canal restoration 1976-1979

I've offered this here as it was a 'project' at the time. The images do show some interesting plant at work in the hands of volunteers. I have scanned in some old slides. of varying quality, of the work on the Basingstoke in 1976 & 1978, here:

Interesting photos, alot of effort went into some of the canal restorations. Does the canal link to the Thames now?

Lot of beards in those days! :D

In theory, yes, via the River Wey, but Deepcut Flight has been closed for over three years due to poor maintenance, in turn due to underfunding by the Surrey County Council. There is also a bad water shortage.

Lot of beards in those days! :D
