Post #1 by martyn williams » Wed Jun 27, 2007 2:39 pm

I am working on a number of projects at the present time, one is an Aveling Barford GA roller fitted with a Ford side valve engine. The roller was built in 1953 and was used by Haverford west council.I will be restoring this roller to its original condition. Will post update and photo shortly.

I sent the magneto for repair last week, rang to find out how its doing. They have repaired it already, hope to get the roller up and running soon.
The magneto is back and the roller is a runner, the engine runs sweet and even sounds like an old ford pop!!

Started on the restoration of the roller, the steering wheel has been renewed, water tank removed for repairs.Brazed up the pinholes in it and flushed out the tank. Not many repairs left to do.On the engine, needs a new top hose and an oil change, the tank will be rubbed down and primed.Looking for a seat for the roller, anyone know of one?
Will then prepare the roller for painting.Amate of mine in the Road Roller Asc. is making a brass nameplate for me.The roller will be named HOLLY after my daughter. Will post pictures soon.

The cast brass namplates are now finished, they will be fitted to the roller and will have a red background. My daughter is very pleased. My mate from Derby has done a great job making the pattern and casting.
