Today I learnt you can put a jcb 3c torque converter flywheel on backwards while trying to do the last job of the engine install, putting the torque converter bolts in. The alignment dowel is the 'wrong side' of the bolt hole its supposed to align for, and the bolt heads hit something on the engine casting when rotated.
On the plus side, I now have a forklift to take the engine back out to sort it, so probably only a few hours work to correct.

vs my own mega lol. The flywheel was on the right way but yes, that spacer is supposed to be *behind* the flexplate...

I'll stick it back in tomorrow after work, if I do it now I'll probably mess it up tired, which is how I did this I think. Also it gives me chance to verify somehow that it is the correct order as now I'm second guessing if its wrong or not...

I take it that wiring was the glow plug momentary abomination? Not even using flex...or much insulation :wtf:

Yep, one conductor of a 1.5mm stranded lightbulb flex to the switch itself and all 30amp passing through it with no fuses, what could possibly go wrong.

I guess the flex could perform the job of a fuse...Once the button had welded its contacts to permanently on :wtf:

A former lodger of mine, who always sought the fastest route to getting something operational, but not necessarily fixed, when he fitted a 200tdi to his SIIa swb, did all of his wiring in domestic flex and chocolate blocks...if he needed a larger gauge of wire he just ran multiples of the same flex... :dizzy:

Well having to work late got in the way of doing stuff in the evenings this week but it pays for stuff so c'est la vie.
More forklift research, and someone at Hyster told me that if I use iso46 the transmission will slip & iso68 is the correct grade for it. So I tried to buy some iso68 locally, and 15 phone calls later, nobody stocks it, some can special order it and several of them tried to tell me that the 46 is exactly the same stuff after checking their equivalence books and will be fine. So this is a good thing, because possibly the previous owner of the forklift was told the same and believed them. I've had to order a drum mail order from Germany & the new transmission filters have arrived ready.
I also measured up the thread on port 1&2 as -8 SAE to make an adapter for my gauges as the new set didn't cover it, and when I fitted the adapter (made from a old AN bung tapped 1/4bsp)/gauge although pressure seems lower than specified (could be the thin oil...) I seem to have drive in both directions now.
So I could have bled up something accidentally fitting the gauge... :P
Its also started leaking engine oil slightly out the shaft seal on the back of the vacuum pump mounted on the back of the alternator which is a pain as its directly above the exhaust and drips perfectly onto the hot pipe. I'll have to see if the seal can be ordered to rebuild it as its still vacuuming ok & the brake power assist works.
Its also still a bit of a cow to start for the first start of the day, and looking at the circuit diagram in the manuals and measuring, it has a resistor to drop the voltage upstream of my relay so the plugs are designed for a lower voltage than the full 12v , but matey was using electrical cable pushed right on the battery terminal to the glow plug rail so possibly did some damage by over voltaging them. Ive ordered a set as they're a service item anyway.

Back to the 3c this weekend, fork hook has arrived in time to drop the engine in again using it, luxury!
