Thanks Martyn. I'm not sure that I need another whole tractor restoration project just now! I had thought (probably incorrectly) that it would be possible just to buy a PTO powered compressor and mount it on the back of my Massey 575 - I think it'll have enough power. But maybe these things are like some tractor flail cutters and need proper brackets for mounting and not the three point linkage?
Anyhow, I took the ERF E12 and low loader for testing today (passed with just a few very minor odds and sods to fix for next time ) and spotted a Diesel towable compressor sitting in the corner, I've an idea they'd loan it me for a day or two - they've known me a few years now and I think they trust me!
Julian.

Hello Julian
A compressor is very handy for all sorts of jobs.I have used mine on a breaker, running all sorts of air tools and spray jobs.
The compressor is the most underated bit of construction kit in my opinion.I think I will start up a thread on these usefull machines.
Regards

Hi Martyn, been following your project with interest! Just thought id stick my nose in with a picture of my little 'love'. Bit concerned about the threaded track adjuster on one side, seems almost seized, have you had any trouble with yours?

Oh, that's a very serious fault - you need to sell it ASAP. I'll be glad to take it off your hands
Julian.

Re: Caterpillar D4
Hello Adam.
If the threads are good, I would free it up make sure its ok.I would then protect the threads.I was thinking of using Denso tape and wrap it around the threads.or even a cut down empty grease tube secured around the threads with clips.
I liked Julians answer Looks a good machine Adam, the fuel tanks seem to be battered on the ones I have looked at.
Cheers

Re: Caterpillar D4
A bit more progress on the D4.A lot of rubbing down was needed creating a bit of dust to compete with the volcano in Iceland.

Hello Martyn
Nice to see your D4 project progressing. Been having the right weather for it. I'd like to see it one of these days.
I hope to bring my Fowler in from Nelson to start restoration in a few weeks time. I'll give you a shout before I move it if you want to see it working. My TM56 will be there too. I'll take some photos of that this weekend.
Regards Fred.
