Back on the D4 today to knock some dents out of the blade.Ran out of oxygen, not for me,for my lamp  .
Fired the beast up,she started very well after a month of inactivity on it.
Better weather to look forward to to get the machine progressed for the vintage show season.
Any progress on yours John ?

The Cat D4 restoration has now restarted after the bad weather in January.Started to put back on the bits that were removed for priming.Maybe next month it will then get its long awaited coat of paint and decals.

I'm very jealous of that Diesel air compressor - looks just the job for a bit of serious sand blasting. I keep looking on the ebay but anything half decent goes for good money.

I did wonder about one of those PTO jobbies (like fitted to the Tractair machines that councils used) but can't find any for sale :(

Julian.

Hello Julian
I used to fit new compressors to I H tractair's.If you can get hold of one, they are very usefull. You have a loader,a good compressed air supply and an interesting machine to take to shows.
I bought that Hydrovane 90D off Julian Carder ( he is steelfab on CMN ) years ago as a non runner.I serviced it,got it running and it has now done about 150 hours of work.
The Hydrovane is an easy machine to overhaul as it does not have that many moving parts.Mine is powered by a Perkins 4.108.and is rated at 75 cfm.For a good blasting job its best to have a compressor rated at 125 cfm plus.Mine just runs a small blaster so its just fine.
Regards

 Hi Martyn, got to cleaning D4 on Saturday morning, took ages getting all the muck out from under the engine, soil, wood, dead rats, and good old farmers friend!! Did look at dropping the belly plate but opted not to on this occasion.
Cleaned up well, came across quite alot of olive drab. Next job to get her home.

Cheers John
