Problems displaying PNG-files?

Post #1 by Holger » Wed May 16, 2012 10:09 am

Hello all,

I've got a question about PNG-files.
One of our members cannot see the posted photos, uploaded as PNG-file.

Just an example:
yellow @ What do you think this is?

Does anybody else have the problem that the photo in the first post is not shown?

It looks like this for me:

No problem with it.
Had no idea what a PNG file is so Googled it

"PNG files were developed to build upon the purpose of gifs. Designers need the ability to incorporate low-resolution images that load quickly but also look great, too. This is where PNG comes in. PNG-8 does not support transparency, but PNG-24 and PNG-32 do. PNG transparency is different from Gif transparency, because they can have different levels of transparency. Gifs are either transparent or opaque. Below is a comparison of how a gif will look if the edges of the image are blurred or they are semi transparent:"

Well , yes, I see !!!!!

But why would anyone use it to post an image to a forum?

When taking screenshots some programs save as PNG automatically.
Also when converting images (reduce size and so on) some programs might save as PNG automatically.

That normally is no problem, PNG, GIF and JPG should be readable by all browsers.

I have now disabled PNG-files. The file in the post linked above I have changed to JPG.
