Dear Holger,

Now I know why I newer could reach Maskinisten. I had sent a E-mail to the admin because I got a message saying I not was allowed log in but got it back again with no answer. That was bad news indeed. :o

I had to translate from Germany to English-Swedish because I not could understand all you had written or had you copy and paste it. I have a German-Swedish – Swedish-German wordbook but it is very annoying use it because of the German grammar. It seems as it is very difficult learn the German language.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64x2 3400+ Dual Core 1.8 GHz
Bandwidth (bandbredd): 64 bits
Memory (minne): 1 GB DDR2, 667 MHz
1 Hard disc (hårddisk): 160 GB SATA, 8 MB cache at 5,400 Rpm/minute
Motherboard (moderkort): Nvidia GeForce 6100 integrated (Integrerat)
Network card (nätverkskort): Realtek 100 Mbit

Connection (förbindelse): Unlimited transfer of data (obegränsad transfer)
Tariff (avgift): Flatrate I.E rate per unit (Enhetstaxa)
Switchport (kanalport): 100 Mbits
Speed outwards (uthastighet): 65 Mbit
Provider: German telecom Level(3) Lamdanet, DeCix
(Operatör German telecom Nivå(3) Lamdanet, DeCix)
Availability (Tillgänglighet): 99 %

Operative system (operativsystem): Linux Debian 4
Control Panel Linux Plesk 8.2

Congrats, to a good PC as have 2 cores so you have plenty of power. But normally such a PC use to have 2,2 MHz and such a large hard disc use to run at 7400 Rpm/min. I myself have an AMD Athlon 64 2.300+ and it is very stable and fast. It loads Windows faster than Intel Core 2 Duo for example.

Why so slow hard disc? In addition, why choose Linux as you not are used to or have you experience of that OS since earlier? If you have, it will be easier for you. Linux is a good system no doubt about it.

Here is a link to a PDF-file about 8.2 as contain 258 pages (Phuuuuuuu)

Hi L-G, thank you!
This server is an environmental-friendly one, called EcoServer. With 54% reduced energy-consuption.
They are using many parts from laptops, I dont know if that is the reason for the slow speeded harddisk.

I have "worked" with (used) Linux-servers all the time.
It has many advantages, such as CHMOD-function and much more.
And through the Plesk-interface it is easy to handle ... should be at least ...

Thank you for the link! Now I have a read for the weekend!

/Holger

Yes I know! I get emails every minute stating the same.

I have the problem that I cannot access Plesk from work because the ports are prohibited.
And I have to learn a little bit about Plesk, the admin-software.
And it takes some time to transfer the domain ...

And-and-and ... :(

I do not meant to rush upon you. I just wanted to know if you had any idea of the working time on the project. For example a week or so.

I can´t say i believe you in the fact you state that your AMD X2 loads windows faster than a Core 2 Duo rated at the same speed! Read some real life test and they all say Core 2 Duo crunches AMD X2. Don´t get me wrong here, i´ve used to run AMD processors but since Core 2 Duo i can´t deny the facts that Intel is superior for the moment in both speed and energy consumption.
