Writing a book

Post #1 by Holger » Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:52 pm

Hi,

coming up from this thread we had the idea to maybe start writing a book where users from all over the world can participate:
CP&E articles, Spec Sheets and Old Photographs (Part 1)

Who would be interested in participating?

Best regards
Holger

I would like to add that I would provide the platform (domain/software) for a collaborate writing.
I think this would be a fun thing. There is enough know-how and experience here to make a great title!

Also: I have the possibility to get the book printed

This has to grow a bit before we can begin, but we can collect some ideas here!
Of course we have to have a "project leader".
Everyone willing to help out has to have an own area/chapter/subchapter, of course it is not nessecary to write. You can also contribute by providing photos, maybe on request from the authors.

I'd be willing to add a few anecdotes of life as i remember it when i was a young apprentice in the 80's if that is the sort of thing you are looking for.
there are old fitters and bold fitters but no old bold fitters...

No Robban, we will only write about REAL machines!

JUST KIDDING!
I think we will have the possibility to add everything, but we have to consider the content.
We have to talk about structure.

Just some rough structure to start with
We have some members who have written books, so please correct me if something is wrong or missing!

Code: Select all

Cover page (backside blank)

Content
Introduction

Content in chapters

Definition of words (lexicon)
Index
Autors and sources

Back page (inside blank)

Should the main content be
- classic machinery only?
- all machinery? (my vote)
- anecdotes? (my vote)

Should it be segmented in
- eras?
- timeline?
- type of machinery? (my vote)

More to think of?

/Holger
