I work on class 66 & 60 most of the time these days, both have 3200hp engines. The 66 has a v12 gm engine the class 60 has a 8 cyl MIRRLES BLACKSTONE.The British built class 60 is a much better locomotive,in build quality and hauling power,it will pull 3000 tonnes on its own no problem. My job can be solitary as the only way to describe the job is like the AA/RAC type service engineer, but we have a much quicker response time as the delay penalties can be £90 per minute.
I had 9 years on plant working on all types of equipment, from gennys to 360 excavators.I worked for Exeter tractor spares for two years on FORD 136/4550/550 machines and all types of Drotts and JCB 3Cs
I would like to set up a plant museum with all the machines I liked from a very early age(3year old) Machines for the museum would be,22 RB all cat equipment,Hymac, JCB 3,well most of 1960s plant.
My collection consists of 5 tracked loaders,a D2 3j,Fordson power major,Fordson standard and a 1970 Hydrovane plus a Aveling Barford roller of 1953 vintage. These machines are in my garden.
Cheers
Martyn

Hi Martyn,

I used to work on the rails a few years ago, firstly for Hughes Rail, and then for Hydrex operating Roadrailers I have loaded/unloaded many stone trucks pulled by EWS engines.

I have to be perfectly honest I never really enjoyed working in the railway enviroment, too much unsocial hours and too many prima-donna machine operators who would always try to stitch me up so I ended up doing all the work all night

It was worth it for the experience though and of course the money was very good, but in the end I had simply had enough and let my PTS run out.

Here are some shots of the last machine I operated for Hydrex on the Tamar bridge in Saltash Cornwall.
