Thanks Robert. I have found that the genuine Aveling Barford seal kits are the only ones to use. But these are geting harder to find now. More times than enough I have torn the rubber boot seals putting the piston back in place using the non A B kits. They are so easy to tear.

Hi piston . just noticed your from N.I. ; funny enough that's where i`m from ! The RD`s i repaired were at Mcclearys quarry just out side Belfast , they`ve got Terex TR45`s now don`t know if you know them ,went up there a lot for T.B.F. Thompson. Also a lot of Maxwell`s quarries had them , have they still got them? |

Yes they did have 2 Aveling Barford RD40s and an RD30 there. The the last 2 in comber had Cummins engines fitted along with the 30ton.All bought new with a Broyt face shovel from K.E.S. I remember them trading a good Cat 245 that had just had a fortune spent on it. I think it went to Blackwells for a while and then onto Spain. It was a first class machine. The older 40's had Caterpiller engines and where used as standby within the Lagan group. All the dumpers I know of where cut up for scrap a few years back. Engines,transmissions,suspension units the lot! Everything saw the scrapers gas spanner! They would'nt sell a thing off them. The Terex dumpers that replaced them are not giveing great service as the rear axles and bearings give allot of trouble which is common on the 45's. Im not sure what is there now. No problem Robert. Im in and out of your dad's place often picking up filters and what not. We got talking and he found out Im a plant nut and he showed me some of his old pic's from Blackwells. I told him members on this forum would love to see them.

Wainwights RD040.Used as & when as a back up,but has been on the go all week hauling out of the "hole",about 600 ft deep now & 9 levels.They used to have 2 but broke the worst one up befor christmas,the chassis & cab still outside the workshop.They also used to have a RD050,but sold that about 4 yrs ago. Nice pics Neil. I have never seen them with the steps like that on the front before. Must have been fitted in there own workshops. Good job. |

Yes,steps on all the dump trucks have been modified in house.The 40T Komatsu rigid has electric fold up/down access steps.Will get some more pics when i go back in a mth or so
