On September 8, 2006, a ceremony was held in Fermont, Quebec, Canada, to honor the retirement of the highest hour 789 Caterpillar truck in the world owned by Quebec Cartier Mining. Famous N° 172 was operational for 17 years and in October of 2005, after moving over 34 million tons of material; it was retired with over 107,800 operating hours. N° 172 was moved from the mine site to the entrance of the city of Fermont, Quebec, where the truck will be permanently on display for tourist and visitors to see.
The city of Fermont was chosen, as it is 10 miles from the mining site, Mount Wright. The mining site is an open pit Iron ore mine and has been in operation since 1975. Everyone that works at the mine site lives in Fermont. The 789’s placement at the entrance of the city is a sign of pride for the workers of the site. The city plans to improve their tourism with the display of this truck, which will be a large attraction.
The City of Fermont plan to have a bronze plaque sit in front of the display to explain the story of this truck.

Woo Nice pic's
Looks like its good for another 100'000 hrs.
Thats the difference between here and England. That would be deemed a Health and saftey hazzard in the UK.
Here's a Pic of the TiTan on Display in a town near me.

Great pictures guys. 107,000hrs over 17 years works out at an average of over 17 hours a day ! Would they aim to operate 24 hours a day less maintenance ?
Presumably this truck was retired as it's now more economical to have a 797 ?

Aye well you would think that. The mines around here have been running for 25yr and still have 30yr left. The infrastructure is already in place and the 797's are to big. Like Workshop size, Haul roads, The need for bigger shovels for them. The lack of tyres etc.
Oh and yeah they run 24-7 here.
Some new Electric drive trucks coming here soon. More Covert Bond tactics to keep you guys up to speed.
