Yeah its a Stothertt and Pitt with the steer wheel. I cant remember the model number. I worked on these in my apprenticeship at Vibroplant in Harrogate. The same machine was made without the steer wheel and they were very difficult to turn. The build quality in my opinion was always poor compared to a Bomag

The way they were givern its number was by the roll width ie SP W71 is 71 cm roller width. I worked on Vibromax double roll machines with no steer wheels. The only way you could turn them is by engauging vibrating function.Bomag rollers were good, the Dynopac rollers we had had drive problems from new.The worst roller I have worked on were Atkinson Unirolls.Their vibrating clutches use to fall apart. We carried out modifications on these rollers that did give improved reliability. The very first walk behind roller was a S & P with a Villiers petrol engine. You had to be carefull in reverse to avoid getting trapped in a confined space. The later machines had a better deadmans drive trip that would stop the roller moving if trigger was released.
Atkinson rollers were Greens rollers of Leeds.I did a two week course at S & P roller factory at Bath in 1984.They had a rolling road to test new rollers.
