Re: Aveling Barford
I worked on a 10 ton Aveling when I worked for a Plant firm in Devon, I think it was a G D roller. It had a torque convertor problem which we repaired.I took it out on the road for a test run and was very surprised how fast it could go as I had only drivern Steam Aveling Porters. It had a weight pulley system to move its weight to alter compaction.
The roller was "coach" painted and looked fantastic in maroon.
Wonder if its still around in the South West today

Re: Aveling Barford / Cone clutches
Hi,
I'm currently restoring a DX8 roller and need to replace the cone clutch linings. Can anyone give me information regarding original specifications for these linings and where I might buy some.
Thanks
CM

Re: Aveling Barford
You best bet is to contact the road roller association, there is a chap called Bill Dickins in that club that can help you.
There are a few friction relining firms around that will reline the clutch.
If you contact Richard Buck of the RRA,he may give you a contact number 01332 347986

Chris
I have a DX 8 myself, see earlier post.
You can download the engine manual for your DX from Internal Fire Museum http://www.internalfire.com/ if you become a member or subscriber. I have already got the manual from them but it would be a bit unfair to send it on as the museum does such sterling work it is worth supporting.
