D8H? Push Loading euclid Scraper

Post #1 by Jim M » Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:54 am

Took this picture from a larger framed print in the bosses office . This pic is from the late 50's early 60's stripping overburden and was taken in the ECLP china clay works at St.Austell Cornwall . I may be wrong but i think this is early Western Ex (Western Excavations) machinery which was ECLP's own plant hire division. 80's pic taken by my mate's dad who worked up there at the time.

Hi Jim,the top pic isn't a D8H.I'm sure about that but I don't know what type of D8 it actually is.
The bottom pic is a D9H 90V series.
I like these pics bye the way  any more?.......please. :)

Hi Nick, I'm working on that mate , Hopefully I've got a CD coming with a load of 60's,70's, and 80's china clay works pic's some including the plant used at the time  .I know I've seen one or two showing the old Foden dump trucks. It was just a guess with the dozer as i don't know what it is either   .

Hi, Folks.
The dozer in the first photo is a Cat D8 13A series. The enlarged diesel fuel tank to the right of the operator is the giveaway. The only other D8's to have that or anything like it were the McCoy Special D8 push-dozers developed for push-loading scrapers more economically.

Here is a leaflet with some of the history of the McCoy Special.
