1st pic is of one of Bechers D8K's on hire to Cheetham Hill in wigan last year.
2nd looks like a French 631G been pushed by a D10N.A nice,tidy cut.
3rd has got to be Stateside.A box morphed from a 637C and an open tourer D9H
4th looks like a dog of a D8K with a nice paint job.Chinese takeaway probably.
Last is the very nice D8H and 463G of Burgess's.Looks the same as the one in 'Earthmovers' receantly.Hat's off to the man that owns it.
BiG Kit knows this chap I think.any pics mate? :)

Nice clip that JCB, good look-round.

out of interest to a bystander how can you easily tell the difference between a H & K

Hi, Richard JW~.
The most immediatelly obvious difference if you happen to looking at it from the right is the hydraulic tank. On most of the 8H's, it was beside the fuel tank and extended forward a bit with rounded-down ends. On the K's, it had a squarer shape with rounded corners and was set ahead of the fuel tank. The K's also had the muffler laid down and forward along the hood and angled along the operator's line of sight where most of the H's had the stack standing straight up in front of the operator. I think all the K's had pilot valve hydraulic controls for the blade and ripper and interconnected steering clutch and brake controls.

I think the K's all had the 7-roller track frame too, although I seem to remember running a couple of late H's with 7-roller frames as well. The K also carried a slightly higher blade and the HP was up from 270 hp to 300 hp.

Hope this helps.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

The lay down exhaust was a mod on early K's as the early ones had a stick up job, if you look at the track frames, the K's have holes in the front top roller mounts to adjust the shimming on the E/Beam lugs, later K's have the Spacer plate motor, also ram rod ends are O on H's and split on K's there is plenty of other changes that would help spot what iron you are looking at.

just to confuse things, here's a few D8H/K's..........only one is a true D8K as some of you will allready know.
For the record my best D8 was the 68A series H with the soft cab in the pictures. It had a Yanky 77V 5000 series spacer plate engine fitted. It was a monstor with loads of power.......and thirst. In the summer the D8H's were burning about 100 to 120 gallons in a 10 hour day.The tractor with the K engine would need filling at 2pm latest so I figured around 160 to 170 gallons a 10 hour day.It shifted the 463 boxes quicker in the cut though.
