Amphibious Dozers

Post #1 by FOWLER MAN » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:46 pm

Hello,
Amphibious dozers were mentioned in another post. Here are some interesting scans of two Komatsu systems.

Very interesting Fred,I worked on an amphibious MF300 once, the tide came in at Cockwood harbour Devon. When I arrived to fix it I could only see its work lights,on the top of its cab  I would hate to be the fitter called out to fix them.

Those machines are very special and interesting!
I suppose much of the machine is different to the "normal" version. Anybody know the differences?

I just gotta know....how long before the water got into the seals ,finals, engine, etc.?
I would imagine that,no matter how well engineered,no hard-working machine could be impervious to salt water.
The first loose bolt,or slight casting crack .....

I think the Komatsu 155 were developed in the mid 70s,but I never saw any results of work achieved.
I'm assuming the development, running & wear costs were astronomical.Modern excavator & dredging machines must have prevailed.
