Rare one.... 834H

Post #1 by SRB » Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:03 am

A new 834H in the yard, destined for Broken Cross OCCS, not something we see a lot of in the Uk but the 4th wheel dozer in the last 2 years, other have been 824's.

Sweet machine indeed SRB, how many 834's are working in the UK these days?

Would like to see some photos of it working, if you get chance!

Regards

Michael

Stuart, i had the first one of these in Australia along with the first D10T. It was not a well excepted machine for the application by the operators. It was more site conditions than the machines fault we found out, trying to knock out 789 loads is just a waste of time with it and we pushed them to get 854G as this would have then seen greater parts and tyre commonality with the 2 992G we had and been able to work the 789 dumps way better. Instead we got a 1 off machine in a remote site that required unique training, tooling, tyres and spares but what does an old tractor fixer know about having the right gear on the job compared to a bean counter or a contract mine manager trying to make himself look good with his saving of expenditure!!

That sounds crazy using a 834 to knock out 789 loads, you wouldn't use a cat 950 to load one of them so why would you use a machine with a D6/7 sized blade of push up to 200 tons over the the edge  At the very least a D9 would be needed which would have superior traction over a wheeled dozer!

Correct me if i'm wrong i thought the role of a wheeled dozer was to tidy around large face shovels etc and maintain haul roads?

Should make the guy fill the 789 with a hand shovel and then make him level the load with a sweeping brush   A little extreme but might make him think twice about machine application !!!!!!!!

Will be interested how this machine fares on site in the right conditions it was made for!
