Rebuilding a D8 final drive today,all new bearings and trying out some cat classic gears,
but not classic top pinions,word is out they dont last

Roly,
how do you get the 'dee' out, the running boards will surely hit the chain too?.....do you slide the cover the last little bit on dowel studs?

fascinating stuff, would luv to 'do one' just for the experience and see what the job involves

One thing IS for sure reckon your toes would smart a bit if that gear dropped on them!!

Hello Roly,is there much saving on the classic parts? How's the arm doing? bet its frustrating.

Richard,yes the cover sat on the dowel enough to get the dee off and with help from
a podge bar it slid on,it goes on easier with the top pinion left out as its one
less shaft to lacate in the bearing case,the chain missed the running board
by 2"

Yes Martyn,the classic gears are a bit cheaper than normal copy parts,the only way
to see if there any good is to try them out,the arms doing alright thanks, they took
the plaster off yesterday and its seized up i cant bend the bloody thing,it wants either
a grease nipple fitting or a shot of WD40

The sprocket and outer hub with bearings were pressed on yesterday,and the
roller frame put on today,changing the transmision monday for our recon unit
as its done over 9000 hrs,catch it before it fails,then new bearings in the cross shaft.

You'll have to build up the physio on the arm to get it back to normal, I suggest starting with only a 1/4 pint in the glass and working up to the full pint

Nice,smart and clean job mate.I notice you take the cab off still atatched to the mounting bracket,I've never seen that before.You can't beat having all the right tools for the job
