Hi everybody! This is my first post on this forum but I have noticed posts by some people whos posts I have been enjoying for some time ( Deas Plant, Swishy, Martyn Williams and several others.
Back to my post. I am the proud owner of an ASV RC30. I own a small stone masonry company and rather than hire subs to do the earthmoving, I decided to buy some sort of skid steer. Having spent some seat time on various makes of wheeled machines, non of which I liked much, I demoed the RC 30. It was the perfect machine for my purposes. It can fit through a 4 foot opening, has lots of grunt, and is very stingy on fuel. Im curious if anyone else reading this forum has had any experience with ASV machines.

It´s a brand that I have never heard of.

And for us dumb non-English persons:
What is a "stone masonry company"?
I can make two guesses and they are probably wrong both:
Something about stones and rock.
Something involving Masonite.
And now I´ve showed my very little understanding about this.

To answe your question, a stone mason is someone who builds things from stone. I build things like fireplaces, retaining walls, sidewalks, columns, entire buildings, man-made waterfalls, and most anything else that can be built of stone. It is a vanishing art here in the states primarily because it is hard grueling physical work. Most of us who choose this type of work do so because we love it.

We had this discussion in friday about building walls (outside) from stones or concrete and we agreed that as the place where far out from the city with fields and forests surrounding the place stone walls would be a better choice as concrete walls would look to artificial.
Do you have any photos from jobs you´ve done?
Im curious as I have plans of building some stone walls at my own property but that will be in a very far future. I´m to busy right now with more important stuff such as a water proof roof on my house etc.

Hey this is a great site. It certainly has an international flavor to it.
Nick, its incredible how useful this machine is. Right now, I just have the standard bucket and the tiller attachment. ASV has a broad range of other attachments including a backhoe, forks, special purpose buckets, and cab enclosures. I am considering the backhoe.

Robban, I will look through my files for some jobsite photos and post them in the jobsite forum.
Please ask me any questions you have on building with stone.

Im here in Brisbane, QLD, Aussie. They are working on a large rail project and ASVs are starting to make inroads into what was mostly a skidsteer dominated operation. I guess their digging ability wins out over a bobcat type machine.
