Hello and a small picture

Post #1 by thorleif » Fri Jan 30, 2009 5:37 pm

Hello CMN members, I recognise some names on here and they'll probably recognise me too!.

Just incase you don't know me I'm from the frozen north, or in other words a small place 60 degrees north called Shetland.

Last year we had our first major offshore demolition project which was done by a company called Veolia and subcontracted to a company called Total Demolition Services. The biggest piece of kit they had was a brand new Liebherr 984c with LaBounty shear. Quite a monster and there were some cracks to be heard at times!.

Anyway, the project was finished last autumn 08 and the pad now lies silent with just a big pile of scrap metal left(some has been shipped away) but here's a small taste of what took place for 8-9 months of last year.

Hi Thorleif, and welcome!

Yes I recognise you, and don't feel too far away - my grandparents came from Orkney!

Hi thorleif, Good to see you on here :D I've photographed that machine in Liverpool but apparantly it's not on these shores anymore. I was told before Christmas it was in Spain :dizzy:

Thanks for the welcome :D .

Yes, it was a section of the Frigg Oil Platform  . and it weighed about 9000 tonnes!.

Wullie, those two 385s left just before Christmas but I never did hear where they were bound for :( .
