TDS Liebherr 984

Not as big as Colemans, but interesting none the less. Photographed at Liverpool docks today was this Liebherr R984 belonging to TDS of Liverpool ready to decomission the HMS Intrepid.

Long boom and a short dipper. Is it used with some kind of hydraulic shearer? That would explain the strange bom/dipper combo.

Spot onm Robban, the machine has been decomissioning oil rigs up in Shetland for a while.

Thats terrible .. poor old Intrepid, there was plans to preserve her at Plymouth .. but the MOD said no, so off she went to be taken apart bit by bit :(

Martyn I quite agree with you it does pee me off that we don't preserve more of our heritage, all for the sake of the "tat man" I always thought it was criminal that we never preserved one of our WW11 battleships, the biggest preserved warship we have is the light cruiser HMS Belfast.
