These are pics of a Roadless/Ford 5000 tractor we had for years. This model had the Select- O -Matic transmission with 10 forward and 2 reverse which was handy for changing on the move as it had no clutch just a small oil cut off pedal to disengage drive to the box for changing direction. We did have some problems with the front Axel as it used to pop out the metal balls on the input shafts going into the front hubs if you were in four wheel drive on a hard lock.

Good photos. Would they have been taken in the mid to late 70s? Did the transmission survive?

Essexpete, These pics were taken in the late 80's,Dad runs Ford tractors because they are easy to work on especially the older ones like the 5000's etc. Before dad bought this tractor we had a Fordson Super major with a Perkins P6 engine in it, but in the winter of 1985-86 we found it had cracked all the way round the bell housing casing just behind where the box bolts to the engine, we only knew this as we had fitted it with a loader and with a bale on the front you could see it flexing with the weight of the round bale on it as he drove around. :wtf: :wtf: :o :backto:
As Ford lovers we would repair and maintain them our self not like the Crap 7840 we have now even the Force 2 8210 is better and more reliable ;) . Unfortunately the selectomatic box died in the end so dad manage to find another Roadless/5000 but this had a H/L 3 speed box and not the best for loader work .

Thanks for the reply Jim. Do you not like the 7840 for a bit of comfort? I quite like the the 8340 we have but admittedly it does like to bleep at regular intervals.

Maister's looks like 'ees dropping a few gluggs of cider there in the last pic :D

what was the repair? head gasket?

selecto-speed Roadless would be a real collectors dream nowadays.....there was a big Roadless event up country last autumn, you may have seen it in the tractor w4nk mags, but they're getting quite a following now.

I went to the Roadless 90 event Richard - was a good day with some very rare machines.

I have a list of most of the tractors with photos of them here http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/Roadless_90 but disd not gett all of them If any body knows the missing tractors or can match owners from here http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/Roadless_90_-_Tractor_owner_list with the tractors list please post detail and i can update the lists.

A taster of a few of the machines at the event :)
