Re: Rail plant
Thanks Ryan and Martyn. I'd imagined that there must have been some sort of specialised gear for concreting on railways where access would obviously be an issue for mixer trucks. My only involvment on railway work was when I organised a delivery of concrete for constructing a ford on the access road...

Re: Hydraulic Excavators of 1982 (treat)
Sadly I believe the demise of Priestman (and possibly Hymac) was down to the cheap Japanese imports at the time. (I may have mentioned this before...) If I recall correctly Sir Anthony Bamford was extremely vocal at the time, and suceeded in getting a levy introduced to bring the cost of the Japane...

I remember Cubic Universal advertising regularly in Resale Weekly and at the Hillhead show in the 90's, but I haven't heard much of them since. I wonder if the aforementioned Andy Fields has any connection with this company: http://www.fields-international.com ? They seem to have quite a few crawler...

Frank,
So you are an ex Roadstone man? Funnily enough, that's who I bought my machine from.
Matt.

That pic of your 38 brings me back twenty five years to when I worked one similar to yours (6/71 powered) and a Dorman powered one before that- the Dorman was a good engine but there's nothing like the sound of a Detroit!
Frank,
Were those face shovels too?
