Re: A few dozer repairs
Roly more cracking pictures and thanks for the reply to my question. You say"just have to shim it for pre-load and backlash" - I have memories (not necessarily fond!) of messing about with engineers blue to check the correct "footprint" of the the pinion on the crownwheel and che...

Dowsett/ RM Douglas
A new posting in the Heavy Haulage section shows a Dowsett Euclid on an RM Douglas low loader. RM Douglas built the Caterpillar plant at Uddingston just outside Glasgow. Dowsetts were involved in the first section of the M1 - Vickers crawlers and boxes. Think that they may also have been involved wi...

Re: A few dozer repairs
Cracking pictures Roly. Do you have full time spannermen or do your drivers do the repairs? Your pics and those from SB in the Haulers section make me feel quite "broody" - then I look at the crooked thumb and various other self inflicted bodily defects and come to my aged senses! These tw...

Road Planer Memories?
The great pic of the Limmer and Trinidad "tar boiler" in the last posting prompts me to ask does anyone have any recollections/pics of the road planing trains that were operated by by a company that I believe was called East Anglian Road Stone or something similar. I have hazy memories of ...

Re: Classic pictures Updated 16 & 17/01/09
Not sure of the correct section for these pics but I hope that some find them of interest. The two 3-axle Scanias LKM 103F & LKM 104F (note that they are badged with the original Sania Vabis name) were, I believe, the first 3-axle units in the UK and were supplied by B & W Motors of Wolverha...

Re: Please help me!
Here's a couple of pics taken about 40 years ago of an AMT D8H kit that I made up about. Pic involved the model, a snow scene painting and the dog's rug! I still have the model but it has not fared too well over the years and several house moves!

Larry Webb
Thank you to all those who contributed to the thread on Dick Hampton. Another name from that era was Larry Webb - does anyone have any recollections of the firm or the man himself believe that he perished in a light aircraft accident. The only reference that I can find is a copyright article on The ...

Re: More muck shifting 1960's style
Whats that in picture 5 ? Steve A Le Tourneau "Electric Digger" . Twin bowl scraper, diesel engine and generator on the front and middle unit and an electric motor in each wheel. As far as I know there were only two of them ever imported - I have pics of the other one working on the Brent...
