Update. All connections checked and looking good. I will check that the oil level does not increase in the coming days.
Over the last two days it has started by hand after two attempts. I think this is very acceptable. I think running it for a whole hour has really improved performance.

Re: Lister hard to start
Spent considerable time investigating smoke from near the injector. I think it is not from the injector but from a poor exhaust seal. Re-attached the exhaust and problem solved. However, the old thing is still not starting easily. I got it going with a tow and ran it for an hour. Works perfectly but...

I will purchaser joint washer and install. Compression seems very high but leaking smoke must be a bad sign.

Evening All Got a little time to work on Barford Bantam with Lister Sr1 engine. Good news is it runs nicely once started. However, I had to tow it to get it going! Day spent fitting new fuel, oil and air filter. New diesel into newly lined the fuel tank. Fuel lines bled to injector. Injector creak a...

Re: Classic dumper rescue and ident
Thanks again for the advice. I have tried to read the ID plate with the methods suggested. I would say the best guess is 89-5SH1A21 The H could be an r but not a t. But given the earlier comments here, I was fairly sure it is a Barford Bantam or SD011 and purchased an old manual off eBay. Interestin...

Re: Classic dumper rescue and ident
Good idea Slooby but it is painted on! No embossing.
The oil filter is the bolted on kind not the spin on kind, this may be a clue.
The HP looks to be 7.75 or 7.15 . This first figure corelates to some Lister SR1s.

Re: Classic dumper rescue and ident
Craig, Neil Cobbadog. Thanks so much all excellent replies. The engine number is clearly very important but just have a look at my ID plate. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/69894_1DAK7V9TXBSVJ1614702761.jpg No details remain. Typical. Is there an engine number anywhere else on t...

Hello Lockdown means I have to do some home schooling. I always envied those schools were the kids built cars in tech. A car is too expensive but we needed a dumper and so we are rescuing a "classic". Not concourse but the important thing is it allows the kids and me to learn the basics an...
