Re: Dumper identification

The rings could possibly be sticking in the piston grooves also because of all the carbon built up from no service... i took off the bottom plate and washed out the sump and oil strainer also. It also had no diesel or air filter.. if you ran a modern engine like that it'd be seized long ago... thoes...

Re: Dumper identification

There is no doubt some wear in the engine, id say lack of servicing judging by the oil filter that came out of it when i did service it... i always move the pump rack to the max when cranking... The company i work for ran many of these dumpers including 4WD ones also in the 1980s all using PH1 and P...

Re: Dumper identification

Hi all. Just some advice needed ... my dumper is going well, i don't use it much but it's going 100% when i do ... i have noticed that with regular use it starts up reasonably easy provided you let the injector spray about 4 or 5 times before you drop the decompression lever but if its left for long...

Re: Dumper identification

No, not available anywhere only at David Cornwallis who specialises in rebuilding old Thwaites dumpers and who also seems to have the Marles steering box parts and repair service aswell..... that looks like an old Yanmar, possibly early 1990s.. I can see the bucket is not right for the dipper arm an...

Re: Dumper identification

I did something similar on the Marles steering box on the Thwaites, it was ran without oil and had water in it... the cross shaft gear and worm were very worn in 1 spot so I built it up with weld and painstakingly ground and filed it back to the original shape as best I could... New parts were very ...

Re: Dumper identification

Great bit of engineering... whats it like to drive ? I find mine has a certain amount of vibration at certain revs, I think all the solid mounted Petter engine's are the same!... is there much free play in the steering when your driving it ? (ie , steering wandering)....
