Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

Haven't come up with a replacement pin yet. Do you think an annealed 4140 pin would work? I think I can get a heat treated 4140 pin but it wouldn't be polished, which might take a toll on the bushing.

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

I burned part of it off in the process of removing it. I've only seen 2 online. Both were over $250 and both were in UK. I can buy a 2" X 9" piece of heat treated 4140 steel locally for $65 And that's probably what I'll end up doing . Not quite the right size but good enough for the girls ...

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

You can't take the ram apart while it's in the boom. It's inside the boom. The opening clearance from the pin down the boom is about 3'. The ram is about 4.5' long with the rod drawn all the way in. You have to pull the pin and slide the ram back and up. to get it out. I used an engine hoist to get ...

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

Does anyone know the part # for this pin? Also need the part # for the seal kit for the ram.

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

It's out! Here's what I did. I glued a length of 1/4" rubber tubing in a 'U' shape around the pin on one side with rubber cement leaving about 1/4" clearance around the pin. I took a piece of EPDM rubber and a piece of plywood and clamped it over the glued tubing to hold and seal it. Then ...

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

To clarify, this is a 2"x 9" solid tool steel pivot pin and not a roll pin. I thought I'd seen it called either but they're different critters. My mistake. The area around the pin is 2" thick on either side of the cast iron/cast steel (?) box with the ram riding in between.

Re: How to remove stuck roll pin

Just so we're clear, the pin that you are trying to remove, is it the one numbered 15 in these images of the King Post? http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/69225_PHCZ8MTCZK2T1603140982.jpg And (I'm not trying to be funny, just getting the situation understood) you've been able to g...
