Re: Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Hi hair bear, yes I did manage to get up there (under the cover of darkness) and run through the checks with the dynamo as you suggested. It worked faultlessly. So the issue was back at the regulator, I probably cooked that when I had the original electrical problem. Changed out the regulator and go...

Re: Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Gotcha! Thanks so much for your help. I will get back in touch once I try it out. I should be able to get back up to it in a week or so (Covid restrictions here in Victoria are preventing a lot of 'unessential' travel' ! ) cheers Rachel

Re: Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Hi mate thanks for the updated info.Yes the old owner replaced the starter a few years back. I dont have the tractor with me at the moment (its about 3hrs away at a bush block) so cant do your test anytime soon unfortunately. Re: Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Hi hairbear thanks for your reply. I have attached a couple of photos of the old harness for you, it is a huge mess, as well as the original connection to the starter. Is that what you mean when you say check the battery terminals? The battery positive goes to the starter motor and the negative batt...

Re: Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Hi essexpete the gen gets hot only when connected via the field and D wires back to the regulator. If I run the tractor without the wires connected it does not get hot at all.

Ford 4000 3cyl Generator / Regulator Problem Help!

Hi there, have just replaced the entire wiring harness on the tractor after a short caused a burn out up near the regulator, the burnt wire was at the 'D' terminal. The tractor had not been running for approx 3 months and so the battery was removed and charged, the Field wire was flashed to the B te...

Re: Ford 3000 Steering Rod Question

Hi agrimax thanks for the reply. Apologies as I have only just seen it today otherwise I would have replied a lot sooner. You were right about the rod! Definitely needs replacing as the effort to get one bolt undone was enough to know I should have ordered a rod as well. Wish I had read your post 6 ...
