Re: Small gravel pit Essex 1964

Great little film.
The guy on the dumper at 1.47 has great faith in the dragline operators accuracy :D
I see your uncle had a front wheel drive Weatherill.

If you were buying a 2wd loader back then
Is a front wheel drive better than a rear wheel drive?

I can see pros and cons with both.

Re: Hymac Excavators

Did they ' engineer Wolverhamptons future'.

I worked on a construction site in Wolverhampton centre in 1988 tbh it was pretty grim at that time .

I remember watching the work at Robin Hoods Bay.
Contractor was using an XWD Austin K9 4x4 truck which I knew from my Matchbox toys !

Seconded great pics. The old Scammell Pioneer has a big job on getting that excavator out of the mud. I know by winching very very slowy with snatch blocks they could achieve amazing feats. The white 4x4 with the Scammell is interesting it is a Portugese UMM. There were a lot of weird and wonderful ...

Interesting machine.
Whitlock did something very similar on a Ransomes crawler.

Re: Classic pictures Updated 07/01/2024

I am not sure the Transcontinental was a very big seller. Seem to remember it was very heavy for 32 ton max UK artics at the time. It was also a complete Bitsa with almost everything bought in by Ford and many subcontract built by Foden for UK market. When they first came out two Wimpey Low loader d...
