Re: JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Well, success at last. Aside from a week of tracing wires and head scratching it turned out to be a simple chafed wire. Very cheap fix:) The loom containing the wire going to the Rev/Lo solenoid was resting on top of the transmission cross member and chafed the insulation off one wire. It did not co...

Re: JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Just back from more testing and a bit more info. My understanding of relays and how JCB implements them was wrong. Apparently JCB fuse protect their switch wires and load wires off the same fuse. I thought the fuse feeding the switch wire was simply toggling the relay off/on as this is all I have ev...

Re: JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Well, this puzzle is starting to frustrate me. It seems to have changed behaviors. I have pretty much the entire cab stripped bare to expose the wiring harness. Everything looks good, nothing burnt and I have moved around the looms enough to eliminate a chafed or rubbing wire. I don't believe the pr...

Re: JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Well, had a look at the wiring schematics today and saw that forward/reverse and start circuit are all fed from one 10A fuse (# 5a). Checked and it was blown. Replaced and started fine but quickly blew again. And again. Replaced fuse with an auto reset circuit breaker and tried to see if there was a...

Re: JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Lights come on the dash ok, warning buzzer sounds etc. It doesn't seem to be a bad battery connection as the lights usually flicker and solenoid will attempt to engage if battery connection is bad. It may just be coincidental that the 2 problems occurred at the same time. I know forward/reverse will...

JCB 214 (3CX) No Forward/Reverse/Start
Hi, Machine - 2001 JCB 214 (US model). I was using my backhoe today for the first time this year when I lost forward and reverse. It seems like the solenoids won't energize, very similar to when I put it in gear with the park brake engaged. Raised it up and checked, all wheels spin easily. Crawled t...

Re: Hydraulic tank cap filter - JCB 214
Thanks guys, appreciate the comments and suggestions. Still hoping to hear of at least one person who DIDN'T change their hydraulic cap and ran into some kind of trouble or symptoms of trouble, then I could see the point in replacing it. At this point no-one seems to want to admit that they have eve...

Re: Hydraulic tank cap filter - JCB 214
Cost is about $60, not too bad by backhoe standards. And you're right, I should buy one for peace of mind. I just find it strange that with all of the JCB backhoes around the world no one here can share a story about some person who never replaced his hydraulic cap and ??? happened. Does everyone he...

Hydraulic tank cap filter - JCB 214
Hi, I own a well-used 2001 JCB 214 backhoe (called a 3CX everywhere else). The service manual indicates the hydraulic tank filler cap be replaced every 2000 hours because there is a filter in the cap. I have no idea if or when it was last replaced, is there any way to tell if the filter is plugged? ...
