Cobbadog, today I got the first chance to get to the dumper again, and I took some photos. It looks however if you have go the handbrake sorted now, so probably a bit pointless, but I will post two anyway.
Your machine looks rather cleaner than mine!

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
This is initially for Cobbadog who has asked about my handbrake arrangements. About 2 years ago, I decided I must do something about the brake(s). The foot brake was non-existent, and the handbrake about the same. I obtained a set of brake linings, intended for a Hillman Hunter, Sceptre or Sunbeam s...

Liner Roughrider Brakes
I have a liner "Rough Rider" which stood for about one year without any running. Now I need to get on and finish a long standing drainage job, so I started it and drove to where I need it. Brakes were just about U/S, time for service. The drums were badly rusted, and the linings badly worn...

Re: George Fowell OR Fowler Dumpers
Just re-read this thread. I notice the references to the flat belt. When I had mine, I turned up a twin Vee pulley on the drive, and ran it as Vee/Flat with the BIG driven pulley.
Not original, but the did not slip like the all flat belt. But that was a long time ago, about 1972 I think.

Cement mixers
Do we have anything on cement mixers? I have an old, small Benford, and wanted info from instruction book if possible, but to my surprise, I can't find anything on mixers. Or is it me?

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
Rob, If you go back to the pic I posted and compare with your pic into gearbox, it looks as if mine is ready for the scrap heap, and your is unused!
lucky you.

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
Rob, that is fantastic. Now I can make one!
Just one point. It looks as if the slot is just a bit too small, it has been forced on, and then peined to prevent it coming off. Does that make sense to you?

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
So, if I have diff problems, I just go digging for old Transit stuff? Sounds like a good idea, though I prefer no diff problems. I just want this dumper to keep working. I am trying to do a little drainage job in my small garden. At the top boundary, I have a tiny little drainage channel off the hil...

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
I am not really into Transits, but I see a diff in the middle, and a braked wheel at each side, and I think that is what I would have found on a Ford car in 1951. Not really relevant though. Your 16 horse power interests me. My Petters AVA1 manual suggests between 3 and 6 HP according to speed, the ...

Re: Liner Roughrider, gearbox problem
Essexpete, the front drive axle is what I would regard as typical of the back axle of a car from 60 years ago, but without any suspension of course. The diff is central, with the halfshafts leading out to the wheels, each of which has an ordinary internal expanding drum brake. The brakes are operate...
