Re: Air Control 22RB swing clutches
A very late update here! Thank you to all for information. I took Martin's advice and adjusted the air regulator down to 40 psi, it had been at 80. result was much better swing control, though not brilliant.I see there is an air "switch" linked to the swing-neutral-propel lever and this re...

Air Control 22RB swing clutches
Swinging the air control machine left or right is a bit rough. It is either fully engaged or not at all, no provision to slip the clutch as on a manual lever machine. Is there a way to adjust the air pressure (how many PSI?) so that swing is gentle and more under control?. Machine is also fitted wit...

Re: Ruston Bucyrus Cranes/Draglines.
Not much help to you,but we have 22RB with Ruston 6YDA air cooled engine. I think you will find that the Dorman badged equivalent is the same engine, so giving more options to search for a replacement. As to how easy it is to replace your water cooled with the more common air-cooled i cannot say, th...

Re: Smalley
Hello , found this weekend a Smalley excavator from the sixties loading a skip of the same era . I was surprised to find this UK machine in the polders of the Netherlands . Notice that Deutz skip tractor restored better than new . Have a nice day That's an early model Smalley, I'm guessing 1967/8? ...

Re: Rebuilding 10RB
Latest update on the re-build..... I took the rear drum shaft and gear to a local locomotive repairer- unfortunately , despite my specific instruction, they tried to press the gear off in the wrong direction on their "400" tonne wheel press. I am unsure whether they have destroyed it compl...

Re: Rebuilding 10RB
Thanks for your input, I suspected a big press would come into somewhere. It's complicated by the fact that there is ball race (a pedestal bearing that carries the shaft) immediately "inside" the offending gear, this will only come off in the same direction as the gear has to come so fitti...

Re: Rebuilding 10RB
Update- work progressing slowly but hit a snag and need advice...... I stripped down the rear drum shaft and found the shaft damaged where the roller bearings run on the shaft, there had been no lubrication there for some tens of years. We have a spare which looks reasonable, so set about removing t...

Re: Rebuilding 10RB
Hi Folks, Long time , no report. Fixing the 10RB is going on slowly in the back ground. Other more pressing jobs to do. The current state is: the left floor panel has been replaced with a new fabrication, the right floor has been extensively repaired and all the control lever bushes renewed. Some re...

Re: The way we were
Hi Bill, I took this photo of a simmular Muir Hill recently. It has been beautifully restored by a friend of mine as you can see. I need to ask him for more details. I'm sure he wont mind if I post the photo here. Fred 010.JPG That's a nice looking machine. I suspect it's more modern than the LH1. ...

Re: The way we were
went the china clay museum last year and i dont think that machine was there then. but this was. IMG_1260.JPG Muir Hill LH1 loading shovel , made in Altrincham, early 1950's. Engine is a Perkins P3. We scrapped ours in about 1987, bought it in 1970 from a builder in Oldham for £70. Two forward gear...
