Simon, The machine shown in your picture is a Thwaites 2 Tonne which is also the model number, the serial number given shows the machine left Thwaites 12/05/1976. The valve shown can more than likely be replaced with a kit from your Thwaites dealer but if you give the Thwaites spares team a call the...

We may be able to help but we're in the midlands, if you can tell us the numbers of splines on the half shaft and the length of it I might be able to put you in tiouch with somone who has one from scrapped machines.

Miles, From the description of the steering fault you are experiencing the seals in the steering ram are more than likely shot to pieces, you can probably save yourself a lot of time by removing the ram and stripping it. Miles, There is certainly no need to replace the releif valve every time you do an oil change and that would certainly be an over kill, the problem with the orbital valve definatley sounds contamination related and will more than likely require the orbital valve to be removed and serviced. Hi Mark, Thwaites do have a dealer in Australia and many if the internal parts for the steering box are still available from stock at Thwaites, however if the cam has failed you will be struggling to find a repalcement for this.
