Re: Old D9 still making money

thanks for the pix, in my humble opinion the best looking dozer ever built, something about the way the bonnet rises up to the radiator and the track frames drops down to the idler at the front, they look so tough. Best sound around too, and NO MUFFLER! just a big fat pipe...thanks for the memories.

Re: Australian Atkinson from 1975.

Hi Jeremy thats great...pity that a lot of manufacturing companies dont follow a similar creed today. The Aussie Atkinsons and Fodens that I knew has fibreglass cabs, steel would have rusted away and fallen to bits. The alloy tipper body would have been a bit of a novelty for its time too.

Re: Australian Atkinson from 1975.

I am not an expert on Atkinson's, but I suspect that the cab is an Aussie designed unit, the chassis and running gear would have been imported as CKD parts from the UK and assembled in Melbourne, Atkinson had a facility there, but I do agree, they sure looked pretty tough for their day. I spent many...

Re: Coles Cranes.

Here is another one of the Coles Cranes, taken on Kangaroo Island in the late 1970's. She looks a bit rough, but still did the business. At one time they decided to replace the Flathead V8 with a Perkins 4 cylinder diesel, but the thing kept breaking uni joints and it wasn't really a success. The sh...

Re: Coles Cranes.

Hi all, can anyone identify this particular model of Coles Crane, I used to drive these back in the 1970's, loading cargo onto small ships that traded to Kangaroo Island. The company had about half a dozen of them, some had the angular cab, some had a rounded cab top, but they all had flathead V8 Fo...

Australian Atkinson from 1975.

Hi all, just going through some of my old piks and found this one..she is a bit of a strange one for the era, but there were 3 of them made, they were all the same, and were made for a Company that I worked for in the late 1970's, for carting crushed Gypsum on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. The...

Re: New D10T XQ's from down under

great piks, thanks for posting....one question though, Caterpillar would have spent a few dollars designing them so that the operator would have had the best possible view, does all that extra stuff around the cab make it worse for the poor bloke in the cab or does the particular work that these mac...
