Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Yeah I fully agree, it’s quite a strange sound but the results have been better than expected.

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
I used special cast iron arc welding rods, no pre-heating needed just weld an inch at a time, using the chipping hammer I then peened the weld as it cooled. Means it takes a long time to complete the full weld. To finish I used also some liquid metal just to give it a smooth finish. I am very please...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Hi All, Sorry for no updates, but here you go the latest status of my gearbox. 1. I have now repaired the cracked casing by welding. 2. Scoured new parts, I.e new indent spring and indent balls, new seals for output shaft. 3. Reassembled the box, with additional fabricated parts around gear stick. 4...

Re: Thwaites Tusker Dumper Gearbox - update
Hi All, A bit of an update on my gearbox, finally managed to split the gearbox and grind off the bad welding, see pictures. I found the indent spring from one side, but still missing a spring and ball bearings so will need to order these. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/29696_J9...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Hi essexpete, thanks for the advice, we lived in the south west of France so the rain is slightly less than UK
Currently trying to find parts for the gearbox, but for a Tusker dumper it’s a little bit more difficult.

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Àhh now the pictures are clearer and in context I can see the box is slightly different to mine . I definitely have a newage gearbox and my dumper is definitely an Orion . However as I said most of these gearboxes have basically the same layout so I would wait until you split it and you may be able...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Is this any use? not certain its the right model but it might be. It covers the tusker dumper further down with some exploded diagrams of the box etc. http://www.oilyhands.co.uk/Thwaites_Tusker_Mk3.pdf Hi MrF, well thanks very much, this is my dumper for sure but without the attachment. This really...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
I stand corrected the Orion should have a single cylinder. New bloke with a Thwaites Orion dumper I think you have a Tusker model, 2 cylinder that sometimes was fitted with a small 180 backhoe. Thanks essexpete always thought the Tusker came with the backhoe and not a dumper, it’s a great piece of ...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox
Well I don't think you have a Nimbus. Probably the Orion or Tusker? Nimbus only a single cylinder Petter. Here are a few pictures of the dumper, not in her best condition. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/29696_3QZDSD9U7HGK01639245010.jpg http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/im...
