Re: Death of a Classic

I share your feelings but at the end of the day we all do what we want with our kit. My personal hate is owners who wont sell at any price but leave the item, car, tractor, truck or lawnmower outside to rot beyond redemption

Re: Villiers mk15 engine manual

Villiersparts are useful for some stuff but Paul Child of Meetens.co.uk is "Mr Villiers" . Meetens have been the "go to" place for all things Villiers since before WW 2

Re: Need your input: categories and general development of the site

Proper forums are for me. Straight to new posts. Not a lot wrong with this one.

Re: The good old iron versus the new stuff.

That's an interesting observation. Here in the UK there are a number of contractors re-discovering the merits of tractors and boxes for short haul muck shifting - cut, carry, spread and compact - all with the same outfit. A few using elevating scrapers too!

Re: DB4

There was an article about the restoration in one of the mags, possibly CPM, a while back. I believe that it said that the original Dorman engine was worn out and they managed to source a replacement from a boatyard. Seem to remember that it was suggested coupled to a plough it would out-pull a D4. ...

Re: Leyland 498 Rebuild - a few questions

He means the position of the ring gaps when installed on the piston...... Really? This side of the water the use of the word "clock" implies measuring. By all means, stagger the gaps to avoid initial blow by, avoiding positioning a gap on the thrust side, but in use, they will move around...

Re: Leyland 498 Rebuild - a few questions

Theses days most rings come ready gapped but use an upside down piston to push each one about an inch into the bore and check the gaps with feeler gauges.
