Re: 3Cmk11 alternative engines
You'd want another industrial rated engine at least so the fuel pump governor works correctly to keep engine revs at or around the hand throttle setting. Most modern small diesels whilst higher powered for their size are also very high revving in comparison to an old tractor engine.

Re: JCB 3Cmk3 transmission repair
Tom,
Are you looking to just replace the broken gear? It may be easier to just replace the gearbox with a unit from a machine breakers.

Section 4 has the info you need on controls. The rest of the manual will prove useful as well.

Re: Head Gasket sealer?
As long as you have removed the projecting weld splatter or any other projections preventing the head sitting down properly there shouldn't be an issue here. A slight pitting shouldn't affect the seal. Is the liner projection within specification? Most of the sealing to the fire ring should be as a ...

You may be able to get a speedi sleeve which will slip over and repair the worn section of the shaft and restore the seal running face.

Sounds like the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft is past it.

Re: The Early Days of Roadless Traction.
Some great pictures Fred. I'm wondering if the large diameter drive wheels are a result of the lack of track flexibility. Certainly the tracks seem to be hogging rather than sagging over the top of the return rollers. It could also to be to try and match the road speeds to the original tractors whee...

Re: Off hire
Didn't really seem to be doing much in terms of "constructing defensive positions" in the middle of fields with no structures visible. I think it was a case of they were easy safe targets. Not likely to cause controversy hitting any civilians in the middle of a field. Waste of time, resour...
