I'm now working for Dondliger and Sons of Wichita Kansas, actually working in Mcpherson, Kansas (Mc-fur-son). Working on 8 miles of a state highway. Here's some pics of the 637E I am running, and the other guy's 637G's.

There are also 2 new 14M graders with joystick controls and Trimble GPS blade controls.

Also,
Neil D, resend me your email address, the one I have for you won't work for some reason!

To be honest, I don't know the yardage figures for the 3.5 miles that are left. Dirt quality can vary from mud when we first start striiping, to chunky, greasy clay. We usually hit the "good dirt" about thre time we get to the bottom of the ditch cuts.
We have 3 scrapers right now, 2 637G's and the "peg leg" 637E. They want 110-130 loads a day per scraper and we've been doing good to get 100. Mine has a number of mechanical issues they'll have to fix to get the numbers up. It's really only a notch ot two above the 627's I ran before. Heat and AC are nice though, along with the glass cab but... the weak ejector and broken rear diff suck. Really cost me/them on load counts.
Weather. It's been jumping back and forth between seasonally decent, say mid 40's, and then of of these cold fronts comes through and it drops down near zero. Every time it gets cold they shut down, and frankly, I am not really making better money than I would on unemployment in Nebraska. Non-union scale I'm making is $15 per hour, I make about 427.50 per hour at home. Where there is no work right now.
I am more than likely going back home today, and I'll wait until they start this 24/7 schedule they want, assuming kansas DOT aproves it.
Stay tuned...
Alan

Probasbly turns to soap when its wet too :dizzy:

Guess what? I'm back home again. Called the big cheese yesterday, the job will be shut down until at least Jan 1. They have a plan to go 24/7 if Kansas DOT approves, to try and beat the frost. We'll see...
In the meantime, back home and restarting unemployment. Anything less than a 40 hour week I make less money working than I do on unemployment after the tax man and expenses thake their toll.
As for the dirt, it is usually heavy clay. My 637 has a weak ejector, a one wheel wonder broken rear differential and minor other problems that cost time both loading and unloading. If they are smart, they'll put it in the shop during shutdown. I don't know if they are smart, however!
For a few weeks anyway, I don't have to care....
