By 1984 with the extra contracting, work we had a pair of 8070s and we still
have them today, there a good reliable,basic and electric gizmo free combine
with just rods and levers,if one breaks just weld it up,no electric solenoids
to go wrong,boy dont they kick up the dust when the straw choppers are in,
and one ten ton tractor trailer driver dont have time to sit about.

Those 80 series seem to last forever.....as you say good old mechanical controls.....Are they Fiat or Merc motors?

Surprisingly enough when you get under the skin of some of the newer CSX & CX machines you can still see some chassis similarities

great pictures rolly! i love to see pics of the agri equipment as i used to work for agricultural contractors in the past! so as well as ur dozers and the combines what other agri equipment do you have? :thumbs_up:

Richard,the 1979 model 15ft cut is a turbo,d ford,the 1985 model 17ft cut is a
naturally asperated fiat,the fiat engine model is a far superior machine,yes they
seem to run forever,the only repairs being the odd belt and knife section,before
the dust has settled from the combines in come the heston balers, and the dreded
fast track & bale chaser, i,m sure he thought he was at silverstone in the F1 race
how he flew about,but there he WAS looking after 4 balers and could,nt afford to
hang about.

Hi tone,the rest of the kit is pretty normal farm stuff,well er some of it might
be a bit wider,longer,or heavier than normal, i,ll post some pictures next door
under tractors.

We just finished last years wheat harvest before the rain,not chancing the balers
getting it done before the rain the combines chopped the straw,not that it mattered
it was going to be ploughed anyway,before we got back to the farm after finishing
cutting it pis$£d it down :thumbs_up:

Yes, those Fiat motors are good. The choppers will sap the power that's for sure.
Our 8040 has one, surprisingly enough - when we went to get filters etc. the parts books only ever seemed to reflect the Ford version, the parts boys thought we'd had some unusual model - if you can call from the Midlands imported.

Have to say that's one thing about farming that makes it interesting what with the changing seasons :thumbs_up:

How's the barley looking, Roly?.....soon be time to get the combines out......we started yesterday, moisture was 16.8% but with drizzle threatening and the straw breaking down brother decided it was time to go

Hi Richard,we have,nt grown winter barley for over thirty years,
the three year rotation is two wheats then o.s.rape,cut thirty
acres of rape yesterday moisture was 11% so we decided to go
as they talk of showers for rest of week,and we had a shower
this morning.

Great pictures Guys. Interesting to hear you've started the harvest Richard. We're expecting the spring Barley to be another 3-4 weeks, I help my brother in-law who does a bit of contract cutting with a Massey 865. It's a great machine and the Perkins V8 really sounds the part ! My job is mainly grain carting (Ford TM120 and 8640) with a bit of relief combine driving thrown in.
I'm looking forward to it.
