Hydrocon ( Clansman?) recently spotted in Rothesay not that far from it's birthplace.

I mentioned above that the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life was in fact the old Hydrocon factory, and that they had a Hydrocon sitting round the back, well I've found the picture!

This was about 15 years ago, but since the re-vamp of the museum it has disappeared. I hope they have preserved it, especially because of the link!

I have just found this site.I used to drive a Hydrocon Highlander in the late sixties.The answer to the question on full circle slewing and continuous slewing is-The hydraulic drive for the Hydrocon came up to the superstructure in pipes so these were twisted as the crane slewed.There fore you could only slew over the cab to the straight ahead position then you had to slew back again or the pipes were twisted of.The Taylor Hydratruck's oil come through athe king post it could keep slewing round and round.It was superior to the Hydrocon in lifting performance etc.The Taylor was built at Grantham in Lincolnshire they were bought out by Coles.

this one has done great service in a scrap yard ,and is now sold as the yard has been sold
