I'm really jealous, I used to drive one of those years ago. It had a twin cylinder listed diesel, a fantastic little machine

Please post some pics of it !

Took delivery of my G reg Liner roughrider 15cwtsite dumper today.

Tried starting it by hand with no success, but then towed it up the road with my pickup and it grunted into life. Steering was a bit of an experience, the rear wheel steering has lots of play and will take a bit of getting used to.

This dumper has a dynamo and the remnants of lights and switches and a horn, I wonder what the switch under a rubber flap is?

Why is it so hard to start by hand? Pretty worried about doing this sucessfully as the handle doesn't seem to naturally fly of the shaft.

There is a linkage to the throttle the bracket is loose, wondering if this is supposed to be in a certain position, there is no linkage to operate the twin decompression levers and flipping both at the same time is tricky.

It's a bit battered, but what a beauty! Once belonged to a council highways department an so is registered for the road! Does a dumper need an MOT?

Some of the Listers have oil priming cups on the air intake.Put a squirt of oil in each.Make sure the starting handle is lubricated along with the shaft it fits onto.Seen a few near missis with a handle stuck on the shaft. You engine may need a decoke as this type of engine carbons up.

Priming oil caps shown in picture 7,forward of the decompressor leavers, those round plugs pull out then a few drops of oil in and replace.I also used to link the decompressor levers together so they operate the same time, much easier for you to start the engine.

Thanks! Wondered what the caps were for. Previous owner bump started it every time and didn't know about the decompression levers! Been reading the Thwaites manuals which someone has put up links to on here and also looking at other stuff on the net and it mentions fuel pump rack positions, wondering if this is a factor.

Hoping to use the dumper on my extension build and then restore it to better condition and put it on theroad.

Also we used to put in 10W engine oil in these machines, not multigrade.Listers usually started better that the Petter engined ones. There may also be an excess fuel position on the rack. Its the engine stop lever. It may have three positions, stop run and excess.
